Bandipur National Park Safari

Bandipur National Park or the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary is contemplating as one of the well conserved, beautiful and the better-managed National Parks in India. This national park is situated in the two beautiful districts of Karnataka – Mysore and Chamarajanagar and lies in the foothills of the Nilgiris with the picturesque surroundings of Western Ghats Mountains on the Mysore-Ooty highway.

This park covering an area of 874 Sq.Kms, with the neighbouring of Madumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and the Wayanad Sanctuary. It also belongs to the Project Tiger Scheme. Once it was the private game reserve of the Maharajas of Mysore.

The dream of wildlife and nature lovers to having a small excursion of Bandipur National sanctuary can come true by the safaris organized by the forest department. The adventurous safaris will take the tourists to the picturesque sites of the jungle.

This Park is famous for its big cat’s and Asian elephants. There is a sizable number of Tigers. On your safari into the jungle you have a great chance to sight a tiger. You can also spot a herd of chital, gray langurs, Indian giant squirrels and elephants. Other natural inhabitants of the forest are Sambar, Gaur, malabar squirrel, porcupines, four horned antelope, Nilgiri langur, jackal, sloth bear, panther, mouse deer , wild dogs, wild boar etc. this national park home to about 230 species of birds like jungle fowl and green pigeon are also found here.

Apart from the wildlife of the park there are a number of spot and exciting things to do, like boating, fishing, bird watching, hiking, elephant safaris, camping and trekking. Bandipur Sanctuary is also famous for its flora also like sandalwood trees and aromatic wood. There are three natural rivers, Moyar, Kabini and the Nagur which are the main source of water for the animals and you can spot animals on the shore of the rivers, roaming in search of water.

Jeep safari

Jeep safari is the best option for the animal lovers to get maximum exposure to wildlife. Tourists can click photographs and watch live animals like Tiger, Elephants and many more. A Jeep can take two rounds of safari drivers either in the morning or in the afternoon and each safari take 1 to 2 hours. A jeep can carry maximum 5 to 6 persons including a most knowledgeable guide and a licensed driver.

Elephant Ride

The elephant ride is a unique experience to visitors at Bandipur. It is only a ride and duration of Elephant ride is 20 mins it is not a complete safari. It just gives a royal feel to the visitors like a Maharaja is roaming in their privet ground.

Elephant safari is also available at Bandipur National Park arranged by The Forest Department of the park. It takes about an hour or more than an hour. The mahavat will takes you deeper into the forest and you can enjoy the sight of the lovely animals in a pleasant environment with dark green hues all around you.

This is the only national park at Karnataka where you can enjoy elephant and jeep safari. Bandipur is an ideal place to spend your vacations.
