Jim Corbett National Park is one of the aged and the most fascinating wildlife reserves set on the banks of the mighty Ram Ganga in two districts of India – Nainital and Pauri – in the hill state of Uttaranchal in northern India. It spread over the area of 1318.54 sq. km with the neighboring Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Reserve Forest areas. It was found in 1936 and was known as Hailey National Park but later it was known as Jim Corbett in the honor of Late Jim Corbett( a great British hunter, conservationist and naturalist).

Jim Corbett National Park inhabits the most beautifully and dangerous predators in its arms including the Royal Bengal Tigers. It is regarded as the heaven for Tigers as it has a population of tigers around 160 and around 366 species of birds as it is the best bird seeing place in India. Through your safari you can see the tiger with your naked eyes and also find large Varieties of prey Elephants, cat, fishing cat and leopard cat, Sloth and Himalayan Black bears, Indian Grey Mongoose, otters, yellow-throated martens, ghoral (goat-antelopes), Indian pangolins, rhesus monkeys and Langurs which can be spotted all over the Park. Owls and Nightjars can be heard during the night.

There are 4 safari zones in Jim Corbett National Park that are Jhirna, Bijrani, Durgadevi, Dhikala. In the morning and the evening time the safaris are regularly conducted in these zones. Dhikala is the largest zone of Corbett National Park and you can sights of tigers, elephants, hog deer, chitals, reptiles and many grassland birds. Jhirna is famous among the wildlife lovers for providing the sight of the wild bear. Durga Devi Zone is the best place for those who are fond of bird watching. In the Bijrani Zone you can face to face with numerous wild beings particularly the royal Bangal Tiger, elephants and birds.

Jeep Safari in Corbett National Park

Jeep Safari is the most speedy and relaxed way to cover large distances in a short span of time within the Corbett National Park. It is also very useful for Tiger tracking, fish-eating Gharials and marsh Crocodiles on the way in the water bodies. Open jeep roofs allow for a good view of the wild jungle and it conduct day safari morning and evening time, also provides ample security to the visitors.

Canter Safari or Open Bus Safari in Corbett National Park

Canter is a 16 seater open air bus and It is the best way out to unveil the inner wilderness of the national park and a bit economical than a jeep safari. The Canter Safari gives a greater chance of catching the tigers and leopards in inland area of the reserve. Canter Safari is conducted twice in daylight, first in the sunrise time and another second is in the afternoon time.
